Astronomy Proficiencys

Proficiency 1 : I can analyze galaxies and the differences between galaxies.  I will compare the Milky Way galaxy to other types of galaxies.

A galaxy is a place that has gravity, stars, gas dust, and stars.   It is a place that we humans cannot even see.  Some at most can only see 0.000003% percent of the milky way;  90% of the milky way is invisible. This is extroadinary that something can be so big and we are really small in the whole relm of things.  Just think of what an ant might be feeling.  It is amazing that earth is just a tiny spec in the universe when we humans think it is very big.  The milky way galaxy is similar and incomparable to other galaxies in many ways.
There are many different forms of galaxies.  The most common being the elliptical galaxy.  An elliptical galaxy can be a possible result of two Galaxies colliding.  There are two other major types of galaxies.  Them being Irregular and Spiral Galaxies.  We live in the milky way which is a spiral galaxy.  There is another neighboring galaxy that is extremely similar to the milky way; it is called the Andromeda galaxy; it is about 2.5 million light years away. As it is visible from Earth as a faint smudge on a moonless night, it is the farthest object visible to the naked eye.  One may possibly think that it is a star since it is a little bright spec.  Spiral galaxies consist of a flat, rotating disk containing stars, gas and dust, and a central concentration of stars known as the bulge.  The bulge is like the eye of a hurricane.  The milky way has a super massive black hole in its center.  But it is only 250,000,000,000,000,000 kilometers away.  ONLYNo harm to us. Scientists believe that in approximately 4.5 billion years the two of these galaxies will collide.  I believe that this could happen but how would I ever know since it is a long time away.  Those are just some of the similarities between the milky way and other galaxies and galaxy types.
Our galaxy is just a little spec  in the part of the universe that we have discovered.  We, humans are even smaller.  There are many different galaxies.  Whatever their differences may be they are what make up the universe.

My research was hard to find but in the end i got all of the information needed.  I learned a lot with my research.  My favorite thing that i didnt know would be that the Milky Way galaxy and the  Andromeda galaxy will collide in approximately 4.5 billion years.

Proficiency 2 : I can identify key technological advancements that helped in making our knowledge of space expand.  My research will show the past, but I will also predict what future advancements may stretch our limits even more.

Proficiency 3 : I can research the history of constellations.  My research will delve into the stories and the myths associated with each constellation.  I will create my own constellation either changing the story of a real constellation or make my own constellation.

Proficiency 4 : I can analyze the origins of our solar system.  Starting with the sun, my research will emphasize how our solar system formed, the differences between inner planets and outer planets, and analyze the future of our sun and the solar system.

Proficiency 5 : I can effectively explain the different theories of the universe.  I will discuss theories  starting from ancient Greece through the theories discussed in present day.  I will analyze all theories and make a judgement based on my research which was most valid.

Proficiency 6 : I can analyze the differences between comets, asteroids, meteors, and moons.  I will research orbits and discuss differences of what we see from earths surface phases.  I will analyze the effect the moon's orbit has on our planet.  I will predict  what would happen if earth had a second moon or the distance to the moon was increased or decreased.
