Stem Cell Research

Stem cells are just cells that can change into other cells, like heart cells, nerve cells, muscle cells, and skin cells and many more.  They may also become proven as use for cure for some medical conditions.  Stem cell research may benefit many conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, spinal cord injuries, heart disease and cancer.  The only stem cells that have helped patients so far are adult stem cells.

I believe that we should keep and continue to research and to find cures for cancer and heart disease and many more sicknesses that we need to find cures to.  So that we are able to save lives that are being taken and not have people even have to go through anything.  Stem cells can now be artificially grown and transformed into specialized cell types with characteristics consistent with cells of various tissues such as muscles or nerves through cell culture.  Cell culture is the process in which one is able to make cells by man.

So what is the controversy all about? Those who value human life from the point of conception, oppose embryonic stem cell research because the extraction of stem cells from this type of an embryo requires its destruction. In other words, it requires that a human life be killed. Some believe this to be the same as murder.

Prompt #4 Round #1 of Prompts For Science

Cell division is basically reproduction of cells.  Cell growth is when "the mother cell" grows and divides into two or more "daughter cells".  Only the mother cell can reproduce like this.  In mitosis, daughter cells are identical.  In meiosis, daughter cells are genetically different.  Cell division is the production of more and more cells.

Before cells can divide they make a copy of there deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).  The DNA of a cell is organized into structures called chromosomes.  By copying these chromosomes it without a doubt makes sure it is and exact 100% copy of its parents cell.  Cell division in bacteria is called binary fission.  It means "splitting into two parts".  Binary fission is where the mother cell grows and breaks apart to make two cells which is called cell division.  This process helps children grow because of the fact of when that happens one time it happens twice the next time the four and so on which gives the kid more cells, but it all starts with that one mother cell.

We need this because everyday cell in our body die but other cells reproduce so we will always have cells.  Also because we need cells to survive.  Since if we don’t have living cells we don’t have living body parts.  In order for the body parts to work the cells must work it is like the screw must stay in the wall for the picture to stay on it.  It is all simple once you understand and comprehend the cycle.

World Without Color

Color is a way of life.  Color resembles your personality.  Color is a choice.  Color is what resembles who your friends are.  Color is a state of mind.  Color’s like blue and red resemble emotions.  Imagine if there were a world without colors. We would all be the same.  None of us would have a personality.  How fun would that be.  My guess is pretty fun.  NOT.  If there were a world without color would you do something about it?
Someone might do something about it for various reasons.  One being that they might want to choose what they wear or be able to hear or feel emotions.  That was what Harrison Bergeron wanted in the story "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut a kid who was taken away from his family and put in jail.  When he broke out of jail they knew he was dangerous.  He wasn’t dangerous he just wanted to have freedom.  He wanted his rights.  He obviously didn’t get his right because of the fact of him getting shot.  This is an irony because this would never happen in real life and it isn’t a romance because well it is the opposite of romance and for some other reasons.  A few being people are “handicapped to make them equal, weights are being used to make the strong people week, and everyone has to wear radio transmitters in the ear so nobody can think or live or let their true colors show.
The people may not do something for also numerous reasons.  So that the less fortunate do not feel even less fortunate and they can be on the top along with everyone else and so the people who were on top feel what it is like to be at the bottom.  This can only happen because of the obstreperously emphatic noises coming from the radios in there ear so they can’t think about any of this. This is extremely unrealistic because who would where the radio and I think that they would be able to at least rip it out and hide and think of a plan to escape.  Possibly that might be something a smart person would do.
Color is a presence of mind.  Color is life.  Color is anywhere and everywhere all at the same time.  When one lets their true colors show,  it shows who they are as a person.

My Weekend 2/21/11

Although my weekend was great for the most part it felt more like two much needed extra school days.  It felt like this because of all the homework I had.  Also I was really busy on saturday.  On Saturday I had a basketball game @ Horizon Elementary School at noon. (We lost by 1)  Next I had baseball practice which was good because there were only 6 people so we got to hit and throw more.  Lastly but deffinatly not least I had another basketball game.  This time for my church, St. Anthony in the St. Killian Tourney in Hartford.  We won and I beat one of my old baseball teamates from stone bank.  Our next tournement game is Wednesday in hartford at St. Killian school.  After the game, to celebrate the victory me and 3 other teamates went to the Mineshaft resturante. At the Mineshaft we ordered 2 large pizzas which we only ate half of each.  So we brought it home and it was all mine.  But on our way out I had to grab the pizzas and I left my phone on the ledge by the elevator and I didnt realize it untill we got home so we called the mineshaft and they found it for me and put it in the lost and found.  For the reason of me needing my phone my dad and I set off to the Mineshaft.  With wind speeds at a treturous 10 to 15 MPH and an extremily thick 5 inch layer of snow.  With these amazingly cold and icy conditions my dad turned out to bea good driver intill we got back into our subdivision where we completely turned around and did a 540 degree turn.  Also the car almost flipped.  It was the most scariest thing in my life. but then when we tuned the car around and drove to our house I realized that it was the most awesome piece of driving ever.  Only because we made a full rotation of the car and nobody got hurt.  Otherwise it was a complete nightmare.

Tragedy in the Real World Compared to Literature

To know how to survive is a great component to have on the resume of life but it is not something one can learn.  It is a natural given ability that not too many have.  It is when you are in a life altering situation and knowing what to do when it happens.  People need to know how to survive when they are out in the real world even though there is an extraordinary slim chance something really scary could happen to them.  When someone or something gets into a scenario where they have to survive it is a tragedy since you never want to have to have someone need to survive. One would want the world to be perfect but that isn’t reality.  The reality is that things happen and things happen for a reason and it is all part of God’s plan for each and every one of us.  When someone has the need to survive it is truly a tragedy.
In the story  ”To Build a Fire” by Jack London there are many reasons why this story is a tragedy, one being the plotline.  The plotline for a tragedy shows that the main character's life is in conflict which is where the man is walking in -75 degree weather and traveling to a camp to meet his buddies.  This is an extremely stupid move any way that anyone can think because you could die.  I would have understood it more if he was with another person since even children at age 10 know the buddy system and that would be the perfect time to do so.  The man’s stupidity in this situation is one reason he died, since if he never left he never would have died.
Next came his rise to power where he is making unbelievable time and builds his fire to stay warm.  Everything is good at this point and he is able to think nothing bad is going to happen but you can never think you are going to be living at the end of a trenching trip like that so he was to confident.  Then his journey, life, and world fell apart completely after that.  His one tragic character flaw was he forgot his imagination in his skinny jeans that he had worn 2 days before.  That led to his tragic fall when he build his great fire under a tree with branches full of snow and then something bad happens, again.  The snow fell on his fire and it went out.  What most people don’t get is why he would make a fire under a tree with snow when you have 183,163 square miles of open land and he chooses to build his fire under a tree.  Most people would say “not smart dude”.  Well only in this decade.
Lastly “literally” lastly the man dies due to freezing to death, but I respect him because he never gave up until his last drop energy he had he gave to making another fire to stay warm.  He even thought he should kill the dog.  He thought this because he had his mind on one thing and would not think of anything else that would work to get him to camp warm and cozy.  It was almost as if he was a cat and he had a ball of yarn and you can see nothing but the yarn he could see nothing but one idea.  You always have to keep an open mind kind of like professional sports programs.
Every tragedy has a lesson and there were two of them in this well-written story.  The first one being that you should always take advice from people who know better and may have been in the same situation in their life that you are in now.  Secondly you always remember the cub scouts motto “be prepared”.  If he would have realized that something bad could happen he would have done better and prevented him dying by surviving.
